This itinerary offers the perfect opportunity to experience the highlights of Tanzania’s northern circuit, featuring a full-day game drive in the Serengeti. Explore the diverse wildlife and landscapes of Tarangire or Lake Manyara National Park, venture into the legendary Serengeti National Park, and marvel at the Ngorongoro Crater—celebrated as the eighth wonder of the world.
After an early breakfast, depart from your hotel for a scenic drive to Tarangire National Park. This park is famous for its impressive elephant herds, sometimes reaching up to 300, as well as migratory wildebeests, zebras, buffaloes, impalas, gazelles, hartebeests, and elands that graze and browse along the dry riverbeds. The Silale Swamp attracts over 550 bird species, making it one of the most diverse breeding grounds in the world. Tarangire is also home to tree-climbing pythons, along with lions and leopards. Later in the day, you will return to Arusha.
Your day begins with an early breakfast at the hotel before setting off on a scenic drive through the Ngorongoro highlands en route to Serengeti National Park. Take a moment to breathe in the beauty of the vast landscapes stretching endlessly before you. You’ll venture into the central region of the park, known as the Seronera area—famous for its abundant wildlife and nourished by the life-giving Seronera River. Here, you’ll witness countless herds of wildebeests and zebras migrating together, elegant giraffes towering above the plains, and antelopes and gazelles leaping gracefully across the grasslands. Keep your eyes peeled for majestic elephants, agile cheetahs, elusive leopards, scavenging hyenas, and of course, the undisputed king of the savannah—the lion.
Start your day with an early morning game drive across the Serengeti plains, seeking out wildlife you may have missed the previous day. Experience an unforgettable sunrise as golden rays illuminate the savannah and predators like lions and leopards begin their morning hunt. For a truly unique adventure, you may choose to glide silently above the plains in a hot air balloon—an optional experience that allows you to witness the untouched beauty of the Serengeti from the sky. If you wish to include this activity, please confirm with your safari expert. After breakfast, continue your exploration of the endless Serengeti plains in your open-roof vehicle, with a packed lunch on board. Don’t forget your hat and sunglasses as you immerse yourself in the wonders of nature all around you.
Begin your morning with another thrilling game drive across the Serengeti plains, capturing the sights and wildlife you may have missed the day before. Witness the magic of sunrise as the golden light sets the savannah ablaze, while predators such as lions and leopards emerge to hunt for their morning meal. In the afternoon, start your journey toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, enjoying a game drive along the way. Your driver will take a different route from the one traveled on day two, giving you the chance to experience the diverse beauty of two World Heritage Sites—from the sun-drenched grasslands of the Serengeti to the lush montane forests of Ngorongoro.
Taking picnic lunches with you, your drive today will lead you to a descend down the crater floor for a full exploration of what the crater has to offer by tracking game with your guide. The crater is 610m deep and 260km² wide, making it the largest Caldera in the world. The crater contains all the big five animals (lions, elephants, rhinos, leopard and buffaloes), hippos, cheetah, antelopes and spotted hyena. Also in the crater you can see different species of birds. Other game such as velvet monkey, jackal, foxes, rock and tree hyraxes, warthog, gnu, zebra and hare.
