The Usambara Mountains in northeastern Tanzania are part of the ancient Eastern Arc range,
divided into the higher West Usambaras and the lower East Usambaras. Rich in history and
culture, they were home to the Bantu, Shambaa, and Maasai people. Today the area is densely
populated, with many residents depending on the forests for daily needs.
Visitors can enjoy unique attractions such as Lushoto town, the historic Amani Nature Reserve,
and Mazumbai Forest—one of the last untouched tropical forests in the region.
